Where are the Elijah’s of God

James 5:17-18

Great industrial concerns have in their employ men who specializes in the repair of machinery should there be any breakdown. When something goes wrong with the machinery, these men spring into action to locate and remove the trouble and get the machinery rolling again. For these men a smoothly operating systems has no interest. They are specialists concerned with trouble and how to find and correct it.

In the Kingdom of God things are not too different. God has always had His Specialists whose chief concern has been the moral breakdown, the decline in the spiritual health of the nation or the Church. Such men were Elijah, Jeremiah, Malachi and others of their kind who appeared at critical moments in History to reprove, rebuke and exhort in the name of God and righteousness.

Sadly enough the society in which we live has become ladened with Sin and to make things worse, the Church has got a glimpse of Worldliness ignoring – 1 Jn. 2:15-17.

Some Churches have quenched the light of the Gospel in their midst. This call is for another Elijah to arise and cleanse the temple.

Three times fed with divine supplies: By Ravens 1 Kings 17:6.

Miraculously increase the supply of the widow 1 Kings 17:15.
By an angel 1 Kings 19:5-8.

His works: A fearless reformer- 1 Kings 18:17-40
Rebuked kings – 1 Kings 21:20, 2 Kings 1:16
Mighty in Prayer – 1 Kings 17:20-22, 18:36-38.

Out of obscurity, Elijah came on to the Old Testament stage, a full grown man who lived a life full of Godliness and hated Sin. His preaching was not a smooth one. Passion fired his preaching and his words were on the hearts of men as molten on their flesh.

Brethren if we will do God’s work in God’s way, at God’s time, with God’s power, we shall have God’s blessing and the devil is cursed. More preachers may help anybody and hurt nobody, but prophets will stir everybody and madden somebody. The preacher may go to the crowd; the prophet goes against the crowd.

A man fired and filled with God will be branded unpatriotic because he speaks against his nations sins. Unkind because his two edged sword. Unbalanced because the weight of preaching opinion is against him. Preachers make pulpit famous, prophets make prisons famous. We cherish men like Luther, Wesley and great saints, BUT WE WILL DO ANYTHING EXCEPT IMITATE THEM. We cherish the last drop of their blood, but watch carefully the first drop of our own.

Yes indeed we try hard to come to Church to accomplish our duty, yes it is a duty to go to Church today, yet we are not prepared to do the things in this book of the Law, we are far from practicing the deeds of the book. So many of us are willing to seat on the fence and watch others, yet we are not willing to get involved.

There are three types of people in the Church, the one who watches things happening, the one who helps things happening and the one that does not know what is happening….which one are you?
